Growing Strawberries In Containers

Strawberries are ideal for growing in containers. I’ve tried them in multiple containers and had great success with all of them. The only problems I’ve had are when the container is in an area with poor sun.
They can grow in shallow pots, including polystyrene boxes. I propagate all my runners in these boxes. You can protect them from pets or children by placing trellis or wire on top of the boxes.
An alternate method can be growing them in a pipe. This pipe was placed horizontally against the wall of the garage. It was placed at waist level with medium sized holes every 45 centimeters.
I have also used small planters with multiple holes for various plants. They have been planted around my strawberry trees which have provided good mulch.
I only plant them around trees with pots that are at least 50cm in diameter. I am also ruthless when trimming back the runners to ensure the original plants can get enough water.
They are ideal for any space and also make great gifts.
